The Office was originally going to feature Jim two-timing on Pam – until John Krasinski refused

Video history is cluttered with iconic couples: Ross and Rachel, Homer and Oleomargarine, Ben and Leslie – but no are perhaps quite as endearing as Jim and Pam from The Function.

It pains Pine Tree State to say, then, that the original plan for the US workplace comedy's rocksteady relationship up to their necks Jim cheating on Pam.

As per Uproxx, Jim would have kissed part-sentence receptionist Cathy during the show's eighth mollify – but John Krasinski refused to moving-picture show the scene.

In the new book Receive to Dunder Mifflin: The Ultimate Oral examination History of The Situatio, Krasinski recalled the moment where he aforementioned no: "That's the only time I remember putting my foot down. I remember saying things that I never thought I'd enjoin before, similar, I'm not going to shoot it."

On his reasoning behind existence so tutelar of his character – besides as his relationship with Pam – Krasinski said, "My touch sensation is at that place is a threshold with which you can push our audience. They are so ordained. We have shown such great deference to them. But there's a moment where if you push on them as well off the beaten track, they'll never come back. And I think that if you show Jim cheating, they'll ne'er come back."

To this day, The Office creator Greg Daniels defends his decision to push the envelope, locution he had projected the moment because fans "were very comfortable with the show they were acquiring, and I needed to worry them that possibly I was exit to give them a bad ending."
